Kim Lissarrague

Kim Lissarrague began making guitars in 1991 when he was just 13. Drawn to guitar making through his love of music and keen interest in working with wood, Kim learned the basics making solid body instruments. Then, inspired by local luthier Peter Biffin, Kim started to experiment with acoustic instruments. Using whatever materials he could find, from floor boards to fence palings, he embarked on luthiers path, of taking the natural beauty of wood and making it sing.

Kim soon became passionate about the sound of the classical guitar, as a player and a seeker of that beautiful tone that has captured the hearts and minds of many, since to time of Antonio de Torres till the present day.

Working in Melbourne for James and Merv Cargill at the turn of the millenium, Kim refined his skills, repairing and making high quality guitars. These days he has a small workshop in the inner west of Sydney.

With his roots in the traditional designs and techniques of luthiers such as Ignatio Fleta and Robert Bouchet, Kim has developed his own designs in the 'Australian School' of guitar making and is selling instruments to accomplished international guitarists including Izhar Elias of Holland.

Kim is now making lattice-braced classical guitars, which have superb projection, clarity and sustain, combined with a full and rich character of tone. Each instrument is handcrafted using the highest quality materials available.
